Geraint Thomas to lead Great Britain at Road World Championships

Former Tour de France champion Geraint Thomas will lead Great Britain’s team in the Road World Championships later this season.
The 2018 yellow jersey winner will compete in the men’s road race along with the season trial, the latter along with British time trial champion Alex Dowsett.
Thomas will be united in the street race event by Ben Swift, winner of the British National Road Race Championships.
“We have this kind of talent pool of elite men’s road riders in this nation that final selection was rather tricky even though the program is so challenging,” explained British Cycling’s elite men’s trainer Matt Brammeier.
“Considering the time trial, we’ve chosen two very professional time trial riders this year in G (Geraint) and Alex, both of whom suit the course and consequently we could expect to see good performances out of them equally.
“G (Geraint) will then stand up to compete in the road race in the Sunday, and will undoubtedly be an important asset to the group in the last laps.
“Ben Swift has stepped up again this year and has come back to his best since his injury.
“I understand he can’t wait for racing in front of his home crowd, and I think having that assistance will really spur on the whole team.”
The rising superstar of yorkshire Tom Pidcock has regained following his crash at the Tour de l’Avenir from facial injuries a couple of weeks back to be chosen in the street race group.
