Geraint Thomas to lead Great Britain at Road World Championships

Former Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas can lead Great Britain’s team at the Road World Championships later this season.
The 2018 yellow jersey winner will compete in either the season trial , the latter alongside time trial champion Alex Dowsett and the elite men’s road race, in Yorkshire.
Thomas will be united at Norwich in June, Ian Stannard, Owain Doull along with Tao Geoghegan Hart winner of the British National Road Race Championships, by Ben Swift in the road race event.
“We have such a talent pool of elite men’s road riders in this nation that final choice was quite tricky though the program is so hard,” said British Cycling’s elite men’s coach Matt Brammeier.
“Considering time trial, we have chosen two very knowledgeable time trial riders this year in G (Geraint) and Alex, both of whom match the class and so we could expect to see great performances out of them equally.
“G (Geraint) will subsequently stand up to compete in the road race in the Sunday, and will no doubt be a valuable asset to the group in the last laps.
“Ben Swift has really stepped up again this year and has return to his best since his injury.
“I understand he can’t wait to get racing before the home crowd, and I guess having that assistance will truly spur on the whole team.”
The rising superstar of yorkshire Tom Pidcock has recovered following his crash at the Tour de l’Avenir from facial injuries that a couple weeks ago to be chosen in the under-23 road race team.
