Blue Jackets vs. Blackhawks NHL Pick – October 18th

I couldnt regain my momentum like I lost 2 of my three selections last night, the last of which arrived from frustrating fashion.
The night actually got off to a start as Boston Bruins and the Tampa Bay Lightning went back-and-forth ahead of the game had a shootout with the two clubs. The Lighting got a Steven Stamkos target late because we struck on the Lighting at +100 chances that were fine in this one, while Andrei Vasilevskiy stood tall.
The night went downhill from there. After once again becoming the first goal of the game, the Winnipeg Jets will allow the subsequent 3 markers and proceeded to lose their third consecutive home game by a 3-1 count. The offense isnt clicking and it bit me upon two of the few nights.
As the total went thanks to — you guessed it — a empty-netter, finally, my last choice of the night between the Predators and Coyotes dropped. We stumbled with a push into the third stage but our fate was secured by a Carl Soderberg empty-netter and gave us night that was losing during the previous three.
It has been a back-and-forth week for this point, but let us go into the weekend on a high note at Chicago Blackhawks in the United Center in Chicago and a matchup between the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Blue Jackets vs. Blackhawks NHL Pick
Because Blue Jackets butt and also the Blackhawks heads out of the United Center, its a rare meeting in the Windy City tonight.
Columbus enters this one riding high after winning successive 3-2 games a much-needed mini win streak after dropping three of those four matches of the season. John Tortorellas team has lots to establish with expectations after losing Artemi Panarin Sergei Bobrovsky, Matt Duchene and Ryan Dzingel to free agency in the offseason. Naturally, theyve been much better.
Scoring targets remains an issue, however. The Blue Jackets enters this 1 yelling tied for 28th with only 2.33 goals per game on the season and while theyve been improved against a few poorer offenses over the past 3 matches, they have still permitted 3.33 goals per match on the rear end. Goaltending was an issue so far after GM Jarmo Kekalainen decided against upgrading the goaltending situation after the passing of Bobrovsky, instead handing the keys. It appears the beginning of tonight will go, while Korpisalo has been better of late.
Needless to say, said start did not go well. The Pittsburgh Penguins torched merzlikins good for an .825 Svpercent within his NHL debut. While we dont know much about Merzlikins in an NHL standpoint, we do know that he put in some work before taking his talents abroad. Merzlikins posted a solid .921 Sv% in each of the previous two seasons in Switzerland, however he found out that the NHL is an entirely new ball game.
Merzlikins will have to deal with keep what is a talented Chicago Blackhawks crime at bay in this one. As they sit with a three goals per match regardless of the standard surge in October scoring, however keep in mind that this has been the leagues eighth-ranked offense from a season ago, they havent fully reach their stride this year. The talented quarter of Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, Dylan Strome and Alex DeBrincat must get the Blackhawks back to the top 10 this year while Erik Gustafsson is the sudden one of the defensemen in the league from an offensive perspective.
On the back end, the Blackhawks are decent when allowing 3.25 goals per match, a number that puts them right in the middle of the league. But it has been their penalty kill thats hurt them as they rank 30th having an ugly 61.5% mark on the PK, nevertheless for tonight the good thing is the Blue Jackets power play has scuffled a tiny bit using a 16.7% clip, good for a share of 23rd along with the Vancouver Canucks.
In four matches played this year, the Blackhawks have allowed only six goals against. Their blueline was upgraded in the Hurricanes using the Distinct trade acquisitions of Olli Maatta from Calvin de Haan and the Penguins in the offseason from a defensive standpoint. The expectation is that the Blackhawks can be considerably improved from their defense from a season ago.
They updated their goaltending position with Robin Lehner whos coming from a Vezina-nominated season using the New York Islanders in the offseason. Lehner has made just 1 start this year, but will get start number two. Lehner allowed three goals on 33 shots in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets. Despite getting almost all of his notoriety last year, Lehner has been a really good goaltender during his nine-year NHL profession as he owns a .918 Sv% for his career and continues to be at .920 or better in three of the four seasons. He simply wasnt playing for winning teams with the Ottawa Senators and Buffalo Sabres. For me, there is very little doubt about who gets the goaltending advantage in this one.
All told, I am on the tonight. They snapped a losing streak with a win over the Edmonton Oilers that were white-hot . They outshot the Oilers 35-28 in that individual. I like the looks of the offense and I cant help but believe that they have a significant opportunity tonight against a goaltender who cant be playing with confidence after being torched this season. Theyve scored at least three goals in every game this year, but I guess they can eclipse that mark given the circumstances tonight.
The Blue Jackets are better recently, particularly but protecting the Blackhawks at the United Center can be a tricky endeavor and I feel that the Blackhawks offense is ready to break out. That will not be good news for Elvias Merzlikins and Co. as I am carrying the Blackhawks to win this one to the moneyline tonight.
