Blue Jackets vs. Blackhawks NHL Pick – October 18th

As 2 of my three selections fell the last of which arrived from frustrating fashion, I couldnt regain my momentum.
The night really got off to a beginning because Boston Bruins and the Tampa Bay Lightning went back-and-forth before the game needed a shootout with the two clubs. The Lighting obtained a Steven Stamkos goal late because we struck the Lighting at +100 odds that were nice in this particular one, while Andrei Vasilevskiy stood tall.
The night went downhill from there. After becoming the first objective of the match, the three markers would be allowed by the Winnipeg Jets and proceeded to lose their third straight home game. The offense isnt clicking and it bit me on two of the past few nights.
Eventually, my selection of the night between the Predators and Coyotes dropped because the total went over 6 thanks — you guessed it — a empty-netter. We stumbled with a push into the third period however our destiny was sealed by a Carl Soderberg empty-netter and gave us our second losing night over the previous three.
Its been a back-and-forth week for this point, but let us enter the weekend on a high note at Chicago Blackhawks in the United Center in Chicago and a matchup between the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Blue Jackets vs. Blackhawks NHL Select
As the Blackhawks and also Jackets ass heads in the United Center, its a meeting from the Windy City tonight.
Columbus enters this one riding high after winning consecutive games across Stars and the Hurricanes, a much-needed mini win streak after dropping three of the four games of this year. John Tortorellas team has to prove with lowered expectations after losing Matt Duchene, Artemi Panarin, Sergei Bobrovsky along with Ryan Dzingel to unrestricted free agency in the offseason. Naturally, they have been much better.
Scoring goals remains an issue. The Blue Jackets passes this 1 tonight tied for 28th with only 2.33 goals per game on the season and while they have been improved against a few weaker offenses over the past 3 matches, theyve still allowed 3.33 goals per game on the back end. Goaltending was an issue so much following GM Jarmo Kekalainen determined against upgrading the position after Bobrovskys departure, instead handing the keys. While Korpisalo was much better of late, it appears tonights beginning will go.
Needless to say, said start didnt go well. The Pittsburgh Penguins torched merzlikins great to get an .825 Svpercent in his NHL debut. Before taking his talents abroad while we do not know about Merzlikins from an NHL perspective, we do understand he put in some wonderful work. Merzlikins posted a good .921 Svpercent in each of the previous two seasons in Switzerland, but he found out early that the NHL is a whole new ball game.
Merzlikins will be faced with keep whats a gifted Chicago Blackhawks offense at bay inside this one. They have reach their stride this year as they sit despite the surge in October scoring with an even 3 goals per game, however keep in mind this has been the leagues most eighth-ranked offense from a year ago. The gifted quarter of Patrick Kane Jonathan Toews, Dylan Strome and Alex DeBrincat should find the Blackhawks back to the top 10 this season while Erik Gustafsson is the sudden one of the defensemen in the league from an offensive perspective.
On the back end, the Blackhawks have been adequate when allowing 3.25 goals per game, a number that puts them right in the middle of this league. However, it has been their penalty kill thats hurt them as they position 30th with an awful 61.5% mark on the PK, however for tonight the great thing is that the Blue Jackets power play has scuffled a little bit with a 16.7% clip, good for a share of 23rd alongside the Vancouver Canucks.
In four matches played this season, the Blackhawks have allowed just six targets against. Their blueline was upgraded with the separate trade acquisitions of Olli Maatta from Calvin p Haan and the Penguins in the offseason from a standpoint in the Hurricanes. The expectation is that the Blackhawks can be significantly improved in their defense from a year past.
They also upgraded their goaltending position in the offseason with Robin Lehner who is coming from a season with the New York Islanders. Lehner has made just 1 start this season, but will really get start number two from those Jackets. In his lone start of the calendar year, Lehner let three goals on 33 shots in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets. Lehner has been a really good goaltender throughout his NHL profession as he owns a .918 Sv and continues to be at .920 or greater in three of their last four seasons. For winning teams with the Ottawa Senators and Buffalo Sabres, he simply was not playing. To me, there is very little doubt about who has the advantage in this one.
All told, Im about the tonight. They snapped a season-opening three-game losing streak with a rock-solid 3-1 triumph on the Edmonton Oilers. They outshot the Oilers 35-28 in that individual too. I like the looks of the offense and I cant help but believe they have a large chance tonight against a goaltender who can not be playing confidence after being torched this season. They have scored three or more goals in each match this year, but I guess they are easily able to eclipse that mark awarded to the circumstances.
The Blue Jackets are better recently, particularly but protecting the Blackhawks can be a difficult task and I believe the Blackhawks crime is prepared to break out. That wont be good news for Elvias Merzlikins and Co. as Im carrying the Blackhawks to win that one to the moneyline tonight.
